Hello

I’m Sue Hyun, and I’m currently in the fourth year of a five-year MSc Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute in London. I work with individuals and couples, both online and at my practice located in Dorset. I am also a Director for Poole Community Counselling CIC, a non-profit low-cost counselling service working within the community here. As part of my clinical training, I have gained experience both with local agencies and private practice working with a wide range of issues and supporting young adults to those in their later years.

Prior to my advanced clinical training, I began training as a counsellor. What drew me to psychotherapy was my interest in working with clients on a deeper capacity, especially with trauma and complex mental health issues. My previous careers with archives and perfumery influences me to this day around how connecting with our senses and histories are integral to our sense of identity and how we live.

I have a keen interest working with those who have experience with being separated from their communities, families and motherlands. As an Asian-American (Corean), I grew up as a third culture kid in the states, meaning I spent my formative years living in a culture different from my parent's culture. Now living in the UK, that experience of navigating different cultures created a dedication to supporting others' experiences making meaning of their cultural, religious and sexual identities. I endeavour to provide a grounded space for the holding for all identities. My practice is rooted in Anti-oppressive Black Feminist, Zen/Engaged Buddhist principles, where I provide culturally sensitive and collaborative space for deeply understanding our intersectional identities.
